Who am I?
Hi there! My name is Sydney and Iām an independent creator living in Charleston, South Carolina. My specialties are writing and editing, though recently I have worked on a TTRPG and a podcast, and am currently developing a TTPRG and two interactive fiction games.
In 2020, I earned a Masterās of Science in Environmental Studies with a focus on Environmental Writing from the University of Montana. My graduate work focused on the intersection of climate change, the environment, and spirituality. Many of my projects and much of my writing centered on Christian fundamentalist approaches to environmentalism (or its lack thereof) and exploring the divinity of Earth herself.
During my graduate program, I was involved with Camas Magazine, an internationally-recognized environmental literary magazine. I served as senior editor for two issues: Summer 2019 (Cadence) and Winter 2019 (Decay).
In 2019, I co-founded The Changing Times, a regional climate change-focused magazine for Western Montana. My primary role with the magazine is as the Editorial Designer and a contributing writer.
Upon moving to Charleston in 2021, I worked with local climate advocacy group Charleston Climate Coalition (CCC) to create Surge: The Lowcountry Climate Magazine, which I co-edit with CCC C-Director Belvin Olasov. Through this magazine we hope to inspire folks in the Lowcountry to take climate action. The magazineās fourth issue will be publishing in April 2023.
In June 2022, I joined Peregrine Coast Press, an independent publishing co-operative, as the Words Lead. At the Press, I work on our weekly blog-newsletter and lead both Peregrine Post, our monthly postcard subscription, and Peregrine Pocketbooks, our upcoming book series.

Whatās this website?
Great question!
My website has changed hands quite a few times since I first started. Iāve hosted on Wordpress, Wix, and Squarespace, but now Iām using Notion in combination with Super. But why?
Thereās a few reasons! First, Squarespace is quite expensive per month and I donāt need its functionality. In fact, I find it fairly limiting and I canāt make it conform to what I want to do. Notion gives me more freedom to set up this website however I want.
I pay $13 a month to Super to make this look better than just a random Notion and also allow me to have SEO capabilities. While itās not free, Iāll take it!
Prior to setting up on Notion, I was attempting to build on a site on Hugo and host it through Github. After a week of struggling to get it to work, I decided to let it go and look for alternatives that could do what I want.
And what is it I want to do?
Youāll notice that most of the blog-type pages on this site have backlinks and links to other posts. This site is set up like a digital garden which is meant to be cultivated and grown over time. Finding connections between my own writing is part of that framework.
Is your domain different?
Yes, it is. My old domain (sydneybollinger.com) is hosted with Squarespace and Iām currently working on transferring that over here. Unfortunately, however, there are some hang-ups as that relates to my Google Workspace account associated with that domain so itās proving to be a slow process.
I wanted to go ahead and move forth with this, so Iāve set this site up with sydboll.com and will be pointing sydneybollinger.com here when Iām able to get access to my domain once again!
